For 126 years, Volunteers of America has been serving the Greater Rochester Region with an array of programs designed to help those who are struggling with a hand up, not a hand-out. Our mission is to empower people in our community to rise out of poverty, move toward self-reliance, and reach their full potential.
VOA serves more than 6,000 people every year, and our programs include: shelter and support services for homeless individuals and families; care and educational programs for at-risk children; family strengthening services; homelessness prevention programs; reentry services that help incarcerated women and men make a positive transition back into the community; long-term housing for formerly homeless households; a food pantry; and affordable housing for low-income seniors.
VOA's programs and services encourage positive development, foster independence, and promote self-sufficiency, providing individuals with the guidance and resources they need to make positive change happen in their lives.
